Hosting organisation:
Mojo de Caña is a non profit organisation created in 2001, with main objective to propose leisure time activities, sports, cutlural and environmental friendly events for young people of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Mojo de Caña is also producing several young artists in the field of street art and circus. They are organizing several cultural productions during the year, since the primary area of the association is artistic production ( festivals, circus, carnival etc.). Through their social projects and activities, they are in daily contact with around 150 youngsters in several islands of Canary Islands.
Main areas of the organisation are:
– Support of young people with fewer opportunities, support for leisure time activities of young people living in rural area.
– Cultural field: producing and organising spectacle for Canarian artists and companies in the field of circus and street art, and organising annual festival “invasion circense”, cultural exchange
– Education to the environment: work camps in the nature, workshops, trips, etc
– Socio-cultural activities: coordination of a socio-cultural centre with workshops and activities, courses…
– European projects: youth exchanges, initiatives, EVS hosting and sending organisation, promotion of Youth in Action and mobility for young people.
Volunteering activities:
Volunteers will be accommodated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Beside helping in organising events and cultural production volunteers will be assisting in implementing several social projects in 2 islands (Gran Canaria 3 municipalities, and Tenerife island). Volunteer will contribute to it during 10 months by attending sessions-activities-excursions with local youngsters (majority coming from single parent families, legal past, immigrants, social exclusion etc). Volunteers will also support International projects department by promotion and diffusion of information’s regarding EVS and helping the Canarians to become future EVS volunteers. The hosting organisation is looking for a volunteer with a graphic-design knowledge and/pr video editing. The volunteer will be accompanied by PR and design team, but will focus on EVS promotion and activities.
Volunteer’s profile:
- basic Spanish knowledge
- interested in:
– Project event management , non formal education ; and/or
– Graphic design – video editing ; and or
– Social work
