“Oscars night. Waiting for Leonardo to receive the Academy Award is brutally disturbed by packing and eating early breakfast. We leave Opatija to catch a 5:40 train to Orahovica, place where on-arrival training is awaiting us. Opatija and Rijeka say goodbye with a storm, as their hearts break seeing us leave…
After a long, long drive, and almost missing our stop, we have finally arrived. We were welcomed by girls from Red Cross and other EVS volunteers, then we took our luggage and drove to our 5-day home. Orahovica is a peaceful and quiet place. The Red Cross Centre, where we stayed, is surrounded by beautiful views. When we arrived, we followed our hunger to the restaurant, where the big amount of tasty food waited for us. After that, the training started!
Our trainers made a funny yet professional team. For five days they have been sharing their experience and knowledge with us. Not only did we gain theoretical knowledge on project management and EVS, but we had also a chance to prepare our own little projects, get to know the local community of Orahovica and share and exchange our EVS experience with other volunteers. I really liked the opportunity to prepare and implement the projects as it gave us the taste of what is waiting for us – coordinating our own personal EVS projects. The other important part of the training was a meeting with National agency representative. She, along with the trainers, provided us with solutions for problems (if there were any) in our organizations, educated us on our rights and answered all our questions (and there were many).
But the training wasn’t all about the workshops. We met other volunteers, great and funny people, who came from different parts in Croatia: Murter, Lovinac, Nova Gradiška and Zagreb. We spent a great time together, partying (not so much! 😉 ), swimming in the pool and sightseeing Orahovica. The best part is – we will meet again for mid-term training!”
