Project description
Care and working centre Toncka Hocevar is a social welfare institution. They offer help and support to adults with mental disabilities and co-occurring disabilities. They organize day care and institutional care. Within programs of day car adults with special needs do different forms of occupations. It helps them to stay active, to develop new knowledge and skills, to be socially included. Daily around 237 adults are attending programs of day care in 5 different units in Ljubljana. In every unit works a team of professional mentors (special educator, social worker, occupational therapist) and working tutors. Inside units work in divided in smaller groups of 15-25 adults. Around 90 adults are living in our residential houses.
Beside the occupation and living, they organize numerous other activities that are offered to their users: they take trips, attend events and various institutions, celebrate birthdays and New Year’s together. They are also active in the field of sports, attending competitions under the organisation of the Special Olympics.
Volunteer will work in day care centre and also in residential houses.
Tasks of volunteer:
Day care centre:

Support daily activities: occupational workshops, sport and therapeutic activities, cooking activities…

Develop new activities: music/dancing workshops, learning of foreign language…
Residential houses:

Support daily activities: following up leisure activities, keeping the house clean, preparing meals…
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteer will live in single bedroom in student apartment in Ljubljana with other volunteer or students, near our centre. Kitchen, bathroom and laundry facility will be shared with other volunteers or students.

Volunteer while working gets meal and eats with other workers.

Volunteer gets monthly bus ticket for transport in Ljubljana.
Volunteer profile:
Organisation is looking for young people who are open-minded and communicative. Who are creative, self-motivated and proactive. It is desired to have handwork skills or other talents (dancing, cooking, music, sport). Volunteer should be interested to work with adults with special needs.
